In 2013, the 1st Annual Death Investigation Conference was hosted at the Daytona Beach Patrol Station with 75 attendees. Each year the conference grew bigger – hosting more attendees and world-class speakers. By 2018, the conference had grown so much that the organizers decided to build an official organization around their educational endeavors. Out of this idea the International Forensic Medicine Association was created.
The IFMA was officially incorporated in 2018 and created as a non-profit professional association for Medical Examiners, Death Investigators, Crime Scene Analysts/Investigators, Forensic Scientists and Students interested in the scientific and educational advancement of forensic medicine. The IFMA is dedicated to enhancing the educational and training needs of individuals engaged in the various scientific disciplines relating to the practice of forensic medicine.
